  • The Wide Bay Burnett region - the coastal and hinterland areas between Caloundra and Gladstone, has unique natural advantages, with an enviable climate and proximity to the major trading and services centre of South East Queensland.

The region has some of Queensland's most renowned costal communities including Noosa and Fraser Island (the world's largest sand island and a world heritage listed national park).

The economy is diverse, with the largest employer in the region being the education sector. There is a strong service sector with growth in the retail, property and business services as well as the banking and finance sectors.

The coastal population is expected to almost double by 2020 with this growth expected to fuel continued economic expansion in the region for the foreseeable future.

The region's key industries include timber, sugar processing, tourism and agriculture.
